About
Hypersurface Art was born from a cross-cultural fusion of vision, craft, and innovation. Founders Maria Perbellini, originally from Verona, Italy, and Christian Pongratz, from Munich, Germany, brought together their rich backgrounds in design, engineering, and material research to form a partnership grounded in both tradition and experimentation.
Their paths crossed in New York, where a shared passion for redefining spatial experiences through material expression sparked the foundation of the brand. Drawing from deep ties to Italian and German craftsmanship, precision, natural material and resource sensibility, they shaped a singular mission:
Luxury Surfaces, Redefined.
At the heart of Hypersurface Art lies a commitment to sourcing exquisite materials and merging them with Italian mastery and cutting-edge technologies. The result is a new generation of bespoke surfaces—sculptural, immersive, and sensorial—designed to elevate contemporary interiors and architectural environments.
The founders of Hypersurface Art, Maria Perbellini & Christian Pongratz have set international standards since more than 20 years with the first customizable line of 3D stone surfaces, called Hyperwave, featuring unique visual and tactile properties since 2003. In 2008 the revolutionary stone design received the segnalazione Compasso d’oro XXI, the most recognized award in industrial design, awarded by ADI in Italy, and entered Compasso d'oro's historical design collection as cultural patrimony of Italy.
"When we use digital design techniques coupled with contemporary methods of fabrication we learned early that marbles and limestones behave differently and interesting new properties are revealed. Since then we always imagine the beauty of natural materials such as pietra Serena stone, Moleanos stone, Cararra marble, Rosso Verona marble, or nembro marble, or Venetian Murano Glass, or Italian ceramics, where the colors and patterns can be enhanced with human creativity of making."
Crafted for the Senses. Designed to Inspire.
At the intersection of heritage and innovation, our surfaces embody a new standard in luxury. Each creation is a celebration of human and material artistry—where natural stones, fine marbles, blown glass, and printed ceramics are transformed through the precision of 3D technology, digital surfacing and of course manual craftmanship.
Rooted in the globally renowned legacy of Made in Italy, our work reflects a commitment to the highest design and manufacturing standards. We craft each piece with exacting attention to detail, bringing timeless elegance and tactile richness to modern interiors and architectural expressions.
Every surface tells a story—of texture, color, and form—that evolves subtly with light and touch. This dynamic visual language delivers not just function, but a deeply emotive, sensory experience.
From interior wall finishes to exterior facades, statement furniture to custom public installations, our creations with materials invite full personalization—made to complement any space, object, or ambiance with sculptural presence and sophisticated design.
